Himalayan Pastoral Trust (HPT), under its Grassland to Classroom initiative, is organising a three-day capacity-building workshop on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for seasonal mobile school teachers and educators working with pastoral and nomadic communities in Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with ReRoot Foundation of India.
Education in pastoral landscapes presents distinct challenges, as children’s learning is shaped by seasonal migration, mobility and access to formal schooling. Seasonal mobile schools help bridge this gap by bringing education closer to pastoral families. Strengthening teachers’ capacities, particularly in foundational literacy and numeracy, is essential to ensuring that children can continue learning in these changing environments.
The workshop will focus on practical, activity-based approaches to teaching literacy and numeracy through nature, locally available resources and pastoral knowledge. It will also address multigrade classroom management and approaches that connect learning with children’s languages, cultures and everyday experiences.
We would be grateful if you could include this workshop in the IYRP events calendar and share it through relevant communication channels to help reach educators and organisations working with pastoral communities.
