Rangelands cover vast areas of North America from the Canadian prairies to the desert grasslands of Mexico. They provide livelihoods and a wealth of ecosystem services that are increasingly recognized as contributing to climate solutions. It is critical to bring these messages to the global community. Designating an IYRP will provide this opportunity!
Over three construction seasons, the Big Hole Watershed Committee and its partners rebuilt streambanks, created wetlands, eliminated a major headcut, reconnected the floodplain, and fenced off 43 acres to let vegetation recover. Post-project monitoring shows an estimated 166 tons of sediment kept out of the Big Hole River every year — a real, measurable improvement for water quality and fish habitat.
