The proposed National Day of Transhumance and Pastoralism responds to the growing commitment of local communities to safeguard and promote pastoral knowledge, practices and biocultural heritage. It builds on the UNESCO recognition of transhumance as Intangible Cultural Heritage and the UN International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026. The Day will create opportunities for dialogue among pastoralists, breeders, shepherds, cheesemakers, artisans, researchers and heritage practitioners.
