Empowering Young Pastoralist Leaders

WAMIP Youth-Led Webinar “Empowering Young Pastoralist Leaders”

This session was designed to engage young pastoralists and global stakeholders in a meaningful dialogue about the challenges faced by the next generation of rangeland stewards and the tools available to them to drive more meaningful decision-making.

Thank you to everyone who joined our youth-led webinar “Empowering Young Pastoralist Leaders” on Friday, 10 April, which focused on youth engagement, global leadership, and practical advocacy tools for the next generation of rangeland stewards.

For those who were unable to attend, we are happy to share the materials from this insightful session:

Highlights of the session:

  • Strategic advocacy: Sam Ikua shared practical recommendations for youth to influence global food governance through data and coalition building.
  • Legal tools: Raffaele Morgantini (CETIM) discussed how to operationalize the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP) to protect pastoralist rights.
  • Global youth roundtable: Youth leaders from Bolivia, Mali, Jordan, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Sri Lanka, and Germany shared their grassroots innovations and the challenges they face in leadership roles.

As we celebrate the 2026 International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, pastoralist voices and inputs are more critical than ever. If you have any follow-up questions, additional inputs, or feedback, please feel free to reach out to the WAMIP Global Secretariat. We would be happy to put you in touch with any of our speakers or provide further details on the resources shared.

Thank you for your commitment to a resilient future for pastoralist communities worldwide.
