CIRAD, in collaboration with the AFD and the Pastoralism Working Group (AFL, AVSF, GRET, Inter-réseaux, IRAM), developed a strategic position paper: "Supporting Pastoralism in the Global South: Actionable Tracks for Sustainable Development."
As we are in the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026), this document is a roadmap to reposition pastoralism as a high-efficiency solution for food security and climate resilience.
Key Strategic Pillars:
- Data-Driven Visibility: Quantifying the carbon-neutral footprint and economic output of mobile livestock.
- Securing Mobility: Moving from theoretical rights to enforced land-use policies.
- Conflict Mediation: Integrating pastoralism into regional peace and security agendas.
- Next-Gen Services: Modernizing veterinary and educational infrastructure tailored to mobility, not fixed settlements.
