As part of the Mobility Matters (https://mobilitymatters2026.org/) and the Promise of Commons (https://promiseofcommons.in/) initiatives, dedicated to the International Year for Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP), 2026, the conference aims to facilitate a space to elevate pastoral voices and experiences in their own words. We aim to bring together pastoral community stewards from across Asia not just to share their stories but also to listen and engage in dialogue with pastoralists from across Asia. The platform also aims to bring together field practitioners, academicians, policymakers, and civil society members to participate to listen to and spread the conference widely.
The conference will be held online to engage with and listen to our pastoral stewards as they share diverse experiences on various themes. We encourage you to review the attached Conference Flyer for all the details and registration guidelines, and to facilitate at least one story from the locations where you work. Please note that the story should not be the work of a non-community organisation (as part of a project by a CSO or academic institution), as the conference aims to highlight community-initiated or managed work in their voices and from their perspective.
We kindly request you to also share this announcement widely and consider nominating community members who may be interested in presenting at the conference. The last date to submit abstracts with other details is 15th August 2026. The selected presenters and stories will be intimated by 24th August 2026.
**Please note that it is preferred that the abstracts and community presenters for this conference are not the same as the stories presented in the previous Community Conference on Commons, as the selected stories of this conference will also be made into a book. You can work with the community members to identify certain aspects of the pastoral system or work related to livestock or land management or tenure that can be presented based on the four themes.
