Sustainable Pastoralism and Landscape Management Course

The final training event of the Sustainable pastoralism and landscape management course in Serra do Alvão (Portugal) took place on 5 December 2025. The course was promoted by Terra Maronesa, the Municipality of Mondim de Basto and the local Farmer Support Office with the funding of Finerge, a renewable energy company. It aimed to raise awareness and build capacities about the multifunctionality of mountain pastoralism, in line with the model developed by Terra Maronesa to foster economic development, territory management and climate action. Participants included mainly herders of local indigenous goats (Cabra bravia) and cattle (Vaca maronesa). This final event comprised three sessions and was a warm-up for the IYRP2026 celebrations and initiatives to be implemented in the coming year in Serra do Alvão, in partnership with our research-action startup RHE Initiative. Attached is the summary report of the event (in English).
