Half a billion people worldwide depend on pastoralism. The media frequently report on conflicts between crop farmers and herders, but rarely on these groups’ mutual exchange and peaceful coexistence. Conflicts are rare where rights are respected. The dossier “We need pastoralists!” - published by LPP, DITSL, FES & MISEREOR with welt-sichten, Germany - aims to mark the IYRP2026 by filling this gap. It reports from India, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya and the Sahel.
