FAO will take the lead: UN process and reports
In its 76th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution made by the Government of Mongolia to celebrate an International Year of Rangelands & Pastoralists (IYRP). UNGA designated 2026 as the IYRP and invited the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to facilitate its implementation. FAO will officially start preparations for the IYRP in 2025 and will inform the 82nd session of UNGA in 2027 about the implementation of IYRP 2026, including an evaluation. In the years between UNGA's adoption of the resolution in 2022 until FAO commences facilitation of the implementation, several units within FAO are working closely with the IYRP International Support Group in preparing for the Year.
